Protests erupt outside Kasba Police station as 3 arrested in alleged Kolkata college gang rape
Shyamnagar Gaurishankar Jute Mill faced closure as a result of escalating tensions between workers and mill owners over unresolved payment issues. Despite prolonged communication from the jute mill workers, expressing their demand for fair wages, the mill officials failed to address the concerns, leading to a protest by the workers.
The primary grievance centers around the inadequate daily wages, and even though a decision to increase wages was made during a tripartite meeting, the mill officials have yet to implement the promised adjustments. Frustrated by the lack of action, workers initiated a protest, blocking Ghosh Para Road and demanding the fulfillment of their rightful dues.
The protest reached a critical point when the workers, dissatisfied with the delay in wage increments, blocked Ghosh Para Road, disrupting local traffic. The situation prompted the intervention of Noapada police station officers, who arrived at Mill Chowk to restore order.
The workers allege that the mill officials are reneging on their commitment to implement the wage increase, emphasizing the unilateral nature of the agreement. This standoff has resulted in the temporary closure of Shyamnagar Gaurishankar Jute Mill, exacerbating the already strained relations between the workers and the mill owners.
